Where Rosanjin Worked

The Kitaoji Rosanjin Former Residence Main House is a two-storey timber building with a gabled roof, in the centre of Yamashiro Onsen below a local shrine, known as the place Kitaoji Rosanjin used as his workplace when he stayed at the spa in the Taisho era (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Its gable-end front follows a local form, but the entrance is set back in a recessed corner at the north-east, and a small smoke-vent roof sits on top (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency registers it, as a building linked with Rosanjin whose local gable front, recessed entrance and smoke vent help form the townscape of the spa, for its contribution to the historic landscape.

What to Look For

Look for the recessed entrance at the north-east corner and the small smoke-vent roof on top (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
