An Open Offering Hall by Egawa
The Nakayama Shrine Offering Hall (中山神社幣殿) is a gabled offering hall of 1922 in Ichinomiya, Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on June 24, 2021 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a single-storey timber hall roofed in cypress bark, with a building area of 22 square metres; registration number 33-0348.
An Offering Hall Open on All Sides
The Nakayama Shrine Offering Hall, like the worship hall designed by Egawa Saburohachi, is one bay by one under a gabled roof of cypress bark (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Its single bay along the length spans the equivalent of three bays, carried on a deep tie beam, and the brackets are simple bearing blocks with arms. All sides are left open, with railings (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Why It Was Registered
The Agency notes that it shows Egawa's style well, its boat-bottom ceiling of grouped rafters resembling another offering hall of his design, and registered it as a model of design.
