A Red-Tiled Wall around the Hotel

The Okinawa Hotel Tiled Stone Wall (沖縄ホテル瓦石垣) is a wall of Ryukyu limestone capped with red tiles of 1961 in Daido, Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on March 6, 2024 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a stone and concrete wall with a tiled top, 92 metres long in all; registration number 47-0092.

A Long Wall around the Grounds

The Okinawa Hotel Tiled Stone Wall runs around the grounds of the guest wing, 1.8 metres high and 92 metres long in all (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Ryukyu limestone is laid against a concrete core, the top is roofed with red Ryukyu tiles, and the ridges and ends are sealed with sand plaster (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency notes that this long wall, together with the gate, frames the hotel front and creates a distinctly Okinawan scene, and registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape.
