A Hall on the Flank of the Peak

Tarobogu Aga Shrine stands on a mountain west of the town centre of Higashiomi. Its main hall, facing east on the southern flank of a rock peak, is a one-bay hall with a hip-and-gable copper roof, a triangular gable on the front and a cusped eave gable over the porch, with verandas on the front and sides (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Its brackets project in two steps set closely together, with carved struts between them, and careful decoration marks the key points: sacred beasts on the beam ends, chrysanthemum carvings and moulded bracket ends (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency notes the careful decoration at key points of the hall, and registered it as a model of design.
