The Brewery Office with Rooms for the Master Brewer

The Daiichi Shuzo Brewery Office (第一酒造酒蔵事務所) is a brewery office of the mid Meiji period, altered in the late Showa period in Tajimacho, Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on November 29, 2016 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey and partly two-storey timber building with a tiled roof, covering 360 square metres; registration number 09-0226.

An Office with Counting Room and Boiler Room

The brewery office of Daiichi Shuzo runs north-south from the east end of the storehouse's south side, a gabled building entered at the gable end (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

At first the southern half by the entrance was the counting room and the northern half by the storehouse the boiler room. Upstairs are living quarters for the master brewer. A large opening in the middle of the south side, leading to an earth floor, recalls the days of transport by horse cart (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape, a building that with the storehouse forms the scene of a sake brewery.

What to Look For

Look for the large opening left from horse-cart days and the master brewer's quarters upstairs (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
