The Founder's Hall behind the Main Hall

The Daijuji Temple Kaizando (大樹寺開山堂, Daijuji Kaizando) is a single-storey timber founder's hall built in 1951 at Daijuji in Fukuchi, Yazu Town, Tottori Prefecture, which in 2024 was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.

The Agency for Cultural Affairs records a tiled roof and a building area of 35 square metres; it was registered for its contribution to the historic landscape.

Yazu Town notes that it enshrines the memorial tablets of every abbot since the temple's founding.

Structure

According to the Agency, it is joined by a corridor to the back of the main hall and stands facing west on a raised stone terrace, with a hip-and-gable pantiled roof entered on the long side.

Inside is a single room with a coffered ceiling. Round columns on the east side carry a tie beam over the altar platform, and the surrounding tablet shelves omit posts, hung instead from a lintel wall, for a light effect.

What to Look For

Yazu Town notes that the sliding entrance door is carved with a crest associated with the Tottori lords. Standing behind the main hall, it forms part of the temple's historic scene.

Notice how it rises on its stone terrace, linked to the main hall by the corridor.
