The Uchiyama held their land at Miyao for roughly four and a half centuries and served the Toyama domain as tomura. What makes their estate rare is that it kept its full arrangement, down to a rear gate that a grander site might have lost.
Registered nationally in 1998 as part of the estate group, the rear gate matters as evidence of how daily life was organized behind the formal face of a thousand-koku landlord's house.
