The Kanemitsu Sake Brewery Well House (金光酒造井戸小屋) is the single-storey timber well house of the early Showa period at the Kanemitsu sake brewery in Nomio, Kurose-cho, Higashihiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on April 3, 2020.

The Agency for Cultural Affairs records it as a single-storey timber building with a tiled roof and a building area of 11 square metres; registration number 34-0270. Eight structures at the brewery, the brewing and storage storehouses, packing house, bottling house, annex, well house, gate and wall, and chimney, were registered on the same day (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Kanemitsu Sake Brewery Well House was registered as a structure that contributes to the historic landscape of the country. The Agency for Cultural Affairs describes it as the source of the water vital to brewing.

What to Look For

The well house stands in the south-east of the site, joined to the gate and wall running east from the main house: a single-storey gabled (Kirizuma-zukuri) timber shelter with pantiles on four corner posts (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Only the south side is walled, in white plaster with exposed posts; the rest is open, with a stone-curbed well at the centre (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
