The Goyashiki North Storehouse West
Goyashiki (Former Inoue Family Residence) North Storehouse West (郷屋敷（旧井上家住宅）北蔵西, kitagura nishi) is an early Meiji-era storehouse on the north boundary of the Inoue family estate in Mure-cho, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan on October 12, 2001.
It stands west of the North Storehouse East, sharing that building's wall. The national database records a 2-storey dozo structure with a tiled roof and a building area of 31 square meters. It is dated to the early Meiji era, shortly after 1868, and is still used for storage.
Smaller but Taller
The Goyashiki (Former Inoue Family Residence) North Storehouse West has a smaller footprint than its neighbor, yet its ridge is higher. The roof is gabled with pantiles, a lean-to eave (Geya) projects from the south face, and the walls are finished in white Shikkui plaster.
It was registered for its contribution to the historic landscape. The official commentary values the way it combines with the North Storehouse East to form the north elevation of the estate. Two buildings of different size, joined by a common wall and topped at different heights, give that northern outline a lively profile.
Seeing the Pair Together
Look at the Goyashiki North Storehouse West alongside the North Storehouse East rather than on its own. Because it is narrower but rises higher, its roof appears taller and slimmer when the two are compared.
The lean-to eave on the south side is another clue. The eastern storehouse has no such eave, so the two white buildings, alike at first glance, differ in expression on the side facing the house.
Visiting the North Storehouse West
The Goyashiki (Former Inoue Family Residence) North Storehouse West is a working storeroom, and the interior is not open. The Goyashiki website says the storehouses in the northwest of the estate serve as business stores and food storage. Set at the back of the property, it offers few chances for a close view.
