A Temple Hall in the Manner of a Local Farmhouse
The Manpukuji Temple Main Hall (萬福寺本堂) is a temple main hall of the abbot's-quarters type of the late Edo period in Nobuno, Nakacho, Naka District, Tokushima Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on February 9, 2005 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a single-storey timber building, thatched (temporarily covered in sheet metal) and partly tiled, with a building area of 181 square metres; registration number 36-0050.
A Hall with Farmhouse-Style Eaves All Round
The Manpukuji Temple Main Hall faces south across the long east-west precinct, with an entrance between it and the priests' quarters to the east (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It has a six-room plan of the abbot's-quarters type, with broad verandas on the south and west, square posts and simple boat-shaped brackets along the sides.
The hipped roof was originally thatched (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Lean-to eaves of full tiles run all round it, giving the look of a local farmhouse with eaves on all four sides, known as shihobuta.
