Registered Tangible Cultural Properties of Yamaguchi

The Former Mutsumi Village Office in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is a two-story wooden government building constructed in 1895 during the Meiji era. Registered as a national Tangible Cultural Property, it is the oldest surviving municipal office building in Yamaguchi Prefecture, having served as the seat of local government for over 90 years while retaining its original architectural form.

The Mutsumi Village Office Storehouse in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is a two-story earthen storehouse built in 1896 during the Meiji era. Featuring distinctive Sekishū tile roofing and white plaster walls, this remarkably well-preserved structure is registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property. Together with the adjacent former village office, it represents the oldest surviving municipal government architecture in Yamaguchi Prefecture.

The Meirin Elementary School Main Building in Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is a magnificent two-story wooden school constructed in 1935 on the historic grounds of the former Hagi Domain School Meirinkan. Distinguished by its shibi roof finials, French tiles, and a striking combination of white plaster and weatherboard cladding, it was the first building in Yamaguchi Prefecture to be registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property. Now open to the public as the Hagi Meirin Gakusha, it tells the story of 300 years of education in Hagi.

The Momoyama Water Distribution Metering Room, known locally as 'Rokkakudō' (Hexagonal Hall), is a Gothic-style brick waterworks facility built in 1924 by the Okinoyama Coal Mine in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. This charming octagonal building is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property and Heritage of Industrial Modernization, offering panoramic views over Ube's cityscape and the Suō-nada Sea.
