Featuring black lacquer plaster walls, hinged doors, sword-shaped snow-splitting roof tiles, and a graceful curved mukuri roof, this imposing kura showcases the distinctive architectural traditions of the Hokuriku region.

Katsura-yu is a former public bathhouse built around 1930 in Jōhana, Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture. Featuring a distinctive copper-clad facade with Western-style cornice molding and gable pediment, this two-story wooden building was registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property in 2019 for its contribution to the historic temple town landscape. It now serves as a craft gallery.

Located in Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture, the Kamidaki Power Station is an active hydroelectric facility completed in 1924 and designated as a national Registered Tangible Cultural Property. As the largest and most downstream of three sister stations built during the first phase of Toyama's prefectural electric enterprise on the Joganji River, it features a pioneering reinforced concrete structure with a flat roof—an architectural statement of early modern Japan.

The niwa, or work yard, is the earthen-floored space where the Uchiyama household's farm labour was done, keeping the farming character behind the formal rooms.

The well canopy is the small roofed structure over the estate's well, on the working north side, sheltering the water source that daily life and farm work relied on.

The front gate is the first thing visitors meet, a heavy, imposing structure fit for a family ranked among Etchu's great landlords and village officers.

The north gate opens onto the estate's working side, where the work yard and well stood, carrying daily farm labour rather than the formal reception of the front gate.

Built in 1868, the Uchiyama main house blends a working farmhouse with Meiji reception rooms: deep sheltering eaves, a moon-viewing platform and a hidden water-chime.

This estate building combines a rickshaw shelter, a driver's hut and a charcoal store in one. The rickshaw points to Meiji, when Uchiyama prosperity peaked.

The rear gate is the household's everyday entrance, opening behind the formal rooms. Where guests used the front gate, family and tradespeople passed through here.

Sannyuan is the most formal of the estate's three tea rooms, a four-and-a-half-mat room built in 1927 under Yabunouchi guidance and restored in 1981 after a spell away.

Yauchou is a tea room the twelfth Uchiyama head made from his own study, naming it for rain heard at night. Plain and shoin-like, it adjoins the storehouse.

The storehouse east of the main house is the largest on the Uchiyama estate. One structure outside, it divides within into upper, middle, lower and miso stores.

The chicken coop is the humblest of the estate's registered buildings, kept for eggs and meat and a sign of how fully this farming household provisioned itself.

The east gate opens toward the garden's plum grove and the snow-capped Tateyama range, at the threshold of an early-spring scene of some sixty plum trees.

The inner wall gate is set into a boundary wall within the grounds, dividing the formal, garden and working zones and ordering how people moved through the residence.
