Why It Was Registered
The Eijuji Temple Sutra Repository was registered as contributing to the historic landscape of the country. According to the Agency, it is a small dozo storehouse, 10 shaku square, standing in the northeast of the grounds north of the shoin and facing south. It has a pyramidal roof, single widely spaced rafters and plastered walls.
Two wooden steps lead up to a doorway closed by sliding earthen doors. Inside it has a boarded floor, a batten ceiling and a dais at the back. The Agency sees it as a small building completing the monastery.
What to Look For
Notice the white-plastered walls and pyramidal roof: small as it is, it has the solid build of a fireproof storehouse for sutras.
It stands beside the garden north of the shoin, marking the northeast corner of the monastery (Shinshiro City).
