The Mogi Honke Residence Former Pickle Storehouse (茂木本家住宅旧漬物倉, Mogi Honke Jūtaku Kyū-Tsukemonogura) in Noda, Chiba Prefecture, is a single-storey timber storehouse built in 1926 on the estate of the Mogi Shichizaemon soy sauce brewing family, and it was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on 15 January 2010.

It runs east to west, north of the main house: 13 metres long but only 3.3 metres deep, a lean, shallow building with a building area of 66 square metres.

The 96-metre board fence that encloses the north and east of the estate starts at the east end of this storehouse, so building and fence together form one continuous northern edge.

An Open-Fronted Lean-To and Three Rooms

From the Kirizuma-zukuri pantiled roof, a lean-to 1.8 metres deep reaches out on the south side. Its front is left open; only the two ends are walled.

The walls are mortar over a dado of Araidashi washed aggregate, the same finish as the Former Rice Storehouse, so the two storehouses match.

Inside are three rooms lined with cedar boards. The name tells us that pickles were kept here, but no source consulted records how the three rooms were divided up. The Agency for Cultural Affairs treats the Mogi Honke Residence Former Pickle Storehouse as one of the pieces that make up the estate.

Visiting

The storehouse is inside a private estate, and the grounds are closed. It stands on the north side of the property, with the board fence running on from its east end along the road, but how much of the building itself can be seen from the road has not been confirmed.
