The Mogi Honke Residence South Storehouse (茂木本家住宅南蔵, Mogi Honke Jūtaku Minamigura) in Noda, Chiba Prefecture, is a two-storey Dozo-zukuri earthen storehouse built in 1926 on the estate of the Mogi Shichizaemon soy sauce brewing family, and it was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on 15 January 2010.

It stands south of the North Storehouse with its ridge running north to south, under a Kirizuma-zukuri gabled roof of Sangawara-buki pantiles. The plan measures 7.7 metres by 6.8 metres.

The two storehouses share the same size and pattern and meet at a right angle; the Agency for Cultural Affairs credits the pair with giving the east side of the property its orderly face. The plans are identical, yet the recorded building areas differ slightly: 59 square metres for the North Storehouse and 57 square metres for the Mogi Honke Residence South Storehouse.

Door to the West, Windows to the East

The walls are finished in Shikkui lime plaster, and like its twin the storehouse shows raised pilasters on the surface, the outline of a frame drawn over walls that actually bury it.

The entrance is on the west side, behind a covered forecourt. The opposite, east wall has two windows on each floor.

The North Storehouse opens to the south and this one to the west, so both doors face inward, toward the main house and the heart of the estate.

Visiting

The South Storehouse stands inside a private estate, and the grounds are closed. Its windowed east wall faces the east side of the property, but how much of it shows above the board fence from the road to the east has not been confirmed.
