Renkyoji Temple Bell Tower
The Renkyoji Temple Bell Tower (蓮教寺鐘楼) is a structure of 1882 in the grounds of Renkyoji in Takabari, Meito Ward, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, and it was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on May 2, 2017, under registration number 23-0474. The Agency for Cultural Affairs records it as a timber structure with a tiled roof and an area of 10 square metres.
Why It Was Registered
The Renkyoji Temple Bell Tower was registered as contributing to the historic landscape of the country. According to the Agency, it stands west of the gate with its ridge running east to west: 1 ken by 1 ken with a hip-and-gable tiled roof. Round posts lean inward on a base of cobblestones, braced by tie beams and bound by a rainbow-beam head tie and top plate.
It has a coved fine-coffered ceiling and fan-shaped double rafters, and the gable is decorated with a carved turtle. The Agency notes its splendid design.
