Wider Post Spacing for Passengers
The Kominato Railway Takataki Station Building (小湊鉄道高滝駅本屋) is a single-storey timber station built around 1925 in the Takataki district of Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture; extended in 1932 and repaired in 2012, it was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on May 2, 2017.
Takataki lies about 3.5 kilometers south of Kazusa Tsurumai. The Agency for Cultural Affairs describes the Kominato Railway Takataki Station Building as a standard station of the first section's opening.
One Ken in Front, Two on the Track Side
The agency records it as single-storey timber with a building area of 65 square meters. Where most registered stations on the line have clay pantiles, this one is roofed in cement tiles.
What interests the agency is the lean-to roof along the sides. On the entrance side its posts stand every one ken (about 1.8 meters); on the track side they are spaced every two ken, so passengers getting on and off trains can pass without weaving between posts. The lean-to itself is built the same way as at the other stations.
Seeing It
At the Kominato Railway Takataki Station Building, walk round to both the front and the platform side and count the posts. The same lean-to is noticeably more open on the track side.
In normal times Takataki is also a stop for the Satoyama Torocco tourist train. Since Typhoon No. 25 struck in September 2026, the line between Kazusa Ushiku and Kazusa-Nakano has been suspended until further notice, with no replacement buses (company statement of September 24, 2026), so for now it cannot be reached by train.
