A porch and a back gate
The Hirao Family Residence Ceramics Storehouse Porch and Back Gate (平尾家住宅陶器蔵蔵前及び裏門) in Morio, Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, is the covered porch in front of the ceramics storehouse together with the back gate beside it, built in the mid-Meiji era, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on March 7, 2008 (number 28-0311).
The Hirao Family Residence Ceramics Storehouse Porch and Back Gate consists of a small roofed porch fixed to the east gable of the ceramics storehouse, and a back gate on its north side. The porch shelters the storehouse door as a working space, while the gate closes the gap between the ceramics and salt and miso storehouses and gives access to the rear of the compound.
It sits at the knot of the storehouse cluster northwest of the main house.
Uneven roof slopes
The Hirao Family Residence Ceramics Storehouse Porch and Back Gate is a gabled, pantiled structure of 1 bay by 2, its west gable fixed to the east face of the ceramics storehouse, covering 10 m². A pent roof shelters the east side; the north slope of the roof is short, while the south slope runs out to line up with the storehouse's own south eaves.
The east and south sides are open. On the north, between the ceramics and salt and miso storehouses, a pair of hinged doors forms the back gate.
Exposed timber among plaster walls
Where the surrounding storehouses bury their timbers under plaster, the upper gable here leaves posts and beams exposed, a small accent among the white walls.
