A long shed in the northwest corner

The Hirao Family Residence Tatsugoya Shed (平尾家住宅たつ小屋) in Morio, Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, is the long two-storey shed for farm equipment, built in the mid-Meiji era and remodelled in the early Showa era, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on March 7, 2008 (number 28-0317).

The Hirao Family Residence Tatsugoya Shed is a 2-storey timber shed in the northwest corner of the site. The compost shed continues from it to the south at a lower level, and with the inui storehouse to the east and the firewood shed it encloses a working yard in the northwest of the estate.

A service gate attached on its east side gave direct access to and from the fields.

Six bays, open at both sides

The Hirao Family Residence Tatsugoya Shed is a long building of 6 bays by 2, gabled and pantiled on a north-south ridge with a tiled pent roof on the east, covering 46 m² including its gate. The walls are boarded and the east side is left open.

To bring long poles and timber in from the farmland, it also has an opening in its northern back wall.

The working west side

With the compost shed, it shapes the western face of the estate. Being open front and back, it shows how farm work flowed between the fields and the compound of a large landowning household.
