Between household and work yard
The Hirao Family Residence Main House West Partition Wall (平尾家住宅主屋西仕切塀) in Morio, Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, is the partition wall closing the gap between the main house and the livestock barn, built in the early Showa era, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on March 7, 2008 (number 28-0346).
The Hirao Family Residence Main House West Partition Wall links the west face of the main house with the north end of the livestock barn's east side. It separates the private domestic area to the north, with the ceramics storehouse and the kitchen, from the outward-facing work area to the south, with the waiting house and the hakariba, a yard for measuring grain.
A short wall with a sliding door
The Hirao Family Residence Main House West Partition Wall is 3.6 metres long under a pantile coping. The eastern half holds a sliding door 1.8 metres wide; the western half is white plaster over clapboard on the south face and vertical boarding on the north.
Short but effective
The Agency for Cultural Affairs notes how effectively it divides the inward-facing from the outward-facing spaces. The white plaster on the side facing the work yard follows the estate's habit of dressing the face that others will see.
Visiting
The Hirao Family Residence Main House West Partition Wall is inside the estate, not open, and not visible from the road.
