The Kanasashi Station Platform and Shelter

The Tenryu Hamanako Railway Kanasashi Station Platform and Shelter (天竜浜名湖鉄道金指駅上屋及びプラットホーム) is a platform with a timber shelter of 1938 on the Tenryu Hamanako Railway at Kanasashi Station in Hamana Ward, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on January 26, 2011 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey timber shelter of 48 square metres with a slate roof, on a concrete platform 82 metres long; registration number 22-0152.

A Shelter on Leaning Posts

The platform lies about 2.5 kilometres north-east of the Kigamachi Viaduct (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is concrete and 82 metres long, with a gabled slate-roofed shelter at its west end.

The shelter has an unusual frame: pairs of posts leaning inward, set 4.6 metres apart along its length, tied with beams and topped with a truss roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The railway dates the shelter to 1948, eight years after the whole line opened.

Why It Was Registered

It was registered under the criterion of contributing to the historic landscape of the country (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Its shelter is framed in an unusual way, on posts leaning inward.

What to Look For

Look for the pairs of inward-leaning posts forming triangles, topped by the truss that carries the roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs, Tenryu Hamanako Railway).
