The Miyaguchi Station Waiting Shelter and Down Platform

The Tenryu Hamanako Railway Miyaguchi Station Waiting Shelter and Down Platform (天竜浜名湖鉄道宮口駅待合所及び下りプラットホーム) is a platform with a timber waiting shelter of 1940 on the Tenryu Hamanako Railway at Miyaguchi Station in Hamana Ward, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on January 26, 2011 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey timber shelter of 12 square metres roofed in sheet iron, on a concrete platform 90 metres long; registration number 22-0158.

An Open Shelter Mid-Platform

The down platform faces the up platform to the north and slightly west (Agency for Cultural Affairs). In the middle of its 90 metres stands a lean-to shelter 8.2 by 1.5 metres, open to the south, with large windows in its boarded walls on the other three sides.

According to the railway, the walls are painted vertical boards with wooden sliding glazed windows and benches on three sides. Diagonal beams carry the front and rear beams, and the ceiling is lined with narrow boards.

Why It Was Registered

It was registered under the criterion of contributing to the historic landscape of the country (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The Agency notes it as an open, airy waiting shelter.

What to Look For

Look for the large windows with wooden sliding sashes on three sides and the diagonal beams that carry the roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs, Tenryu Hamanako Railway).

Visiting

Miyaguchi is a working station, so the buildings and platforms can be seen when you travel by train. Miyaguchi Station is unstaffed (Tenryu Hamanako Railway). Tickets, fares and the turntable tour are covered on the Tenryu Hamanako Railway page. Do not enter the tracks or railway land.

The Hamakita Ward of Hamamatsu named in the Agency's record became part of Hamana Ward when the city reorganised its wards on January 1, 2024; town names and lot numbers did not change (Hamamatsu City).
