The Enshu-Mori Station Building and Up Platform

The Tenryu Hamanako Railway Enshu-Mori Station Building and Up Platform (天竜浜名湖鉄道遠州森駅本屋及び上りプラットホーム) is a wooden station building and platform of 1935 on the Tenryu Hamanako Railway at Enshu-Mori Station in Mori-machi, Shuchi District, Shizuoka Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on January 26, 2011 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey wooden building of 146 square metres, roofed in tile and partly in sheet iron, with a concrete platform 86 metres long; registration number 22-0170.

An Opening-Day Station Little Changed

The building faces west in the centre of Mori and is 16 by 6 metres, single-storey and timber (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It has a tiled gabled roof, a gabled carriage porch at the front and a canopy on the platform side, with the waiting room to the west and the office to the east, a standard station plan.

According to the railway, Enshu-Mori was one of the three stations opened on April 17, 1935, first named Totoumi-Mori. Its windows still hold the original wavy glass, and the half-glazed doors at the ticket gate survive. The railway describes it as a rare survival of an original station barely altered.

Why It Was Registered

It was registered under the criterion of contributing to the historic landscape of the country (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is an opening-day station that survives almost unaltered and shows the standard station layout.

What to Look For

Look for the gabled carriage porch, the original wavy window glass and the pair of half-glazed sliding doors at the ticket gate (Agency for Cultural Affairs, Tenryu Hamanako Railway).
