The Miyaguchi Station Building and Up Platform

The Tenryu Hamanako Railway Miyaguchi Station Building and Up Platform (天竜浜名湖鉄道宮口駅本屋及び上りプラットホーム) is a wooden station building and platform of 1940 on the Tenryu Hamanako Railway at Miyaguchi Station in Hamana Ward, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on January 26, 2011 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey timber building of 139 square metres with a tiled roof, and a concrete platform 87 metres long; registration number 22-0157.

A Station Kept as Built

Miyaguchi Station lies about 3.6 kilometres east of the Miyakodagawa Bridge. The building is 15 by 7.5 metres, single-storey and timber, with an 87-metre platform (Agency for Cultural Affairs); the waiting room is to the east and the office to the west, with a store at the north-west corner.

According to the railway, it has a tiled gabled roof whose rear slope doubles as the platform canopy. The original pairs of half-panelled sliding doors survive at the waiting-room entrance and ticket gate, with a bench and part of the original wooden gate on the east side.

Why It Was Registered

It was registered under the criterion of contributing to the historic landscape of the country (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The Agency notes that it keeps its original layout throughout.

What to Look For

Look for the rear roof that doubles as the platform canopy and the original sliding panelled doors at the entrance and ticket gate (Tenryu Hamanako Railway).

Visiting

Miyaguchi is a working station, so the buildings and platforms can be seen when you travel by train. Miyaguchi Station is unstaffed (Tenryu Hamanako Railway). Tickets, fares and the turntable tour are covered on the Tenryu Hamanako Railway page. Do not enter the tracks or railway land.

The Hamakita Ward of Hamamatsu named in the Agency's record became part of Hamana Ward when the city reorganised its wards on January 1, 2024; town names and lot numbers did not change (Hamamatsu City).
