A wooden fence southwest of the front gate
The Kusaka Family Residence Wooden Fence (日下家住宅木塀, Kusaka-ke Jūtaku Kibei) in Awaga, Santo-cho, Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture, is the wooden fence enclosing a garden near the main entrance, made in the early Showa era; it was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on January 26, 2011 (number 28-0510). It encloses the north and west sides of the garden west of the charcoal shed, southwest of the front gate.
The Kusaka Family Residence Wooden Fence stands on a stone wall and runs 9.3 metres, turning a corner, to define a garden close to the main entrance.
A timber paling with a little roof
The Kusaka Family Residence Wooden Fence is built like a timber paling: square posts on a sill with tie beams through them. Brackets at the top carry an eave beam, with a single layer of widely spaced rafters and a pantile capping.
A gentle note at the entrance
The Agency for Cultural Affairs says the Kusaka wooden fence lends the main entrance a gentle, quiet atmosphere. In a compound otherwise enclosed by earthen and plastered walls, an open paling under a small tiled roof softens the approach.
Visiting
The Kusaka Family Residence Wooden Fence is near the main entrance but encloses an inner garden, so it is hard to see from outside. The grounds are not open.
