Storage sheds running along the street

The Kusaka Family Residence Storage Sheds (日下家住宅物置, Kusaka-ke Jūtaku Monooki) in Awaga, Santo-cho, Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture, is a long range of storage sheds that turns a corner along the street, built late in the Edo period; it was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on January 26, 2011 (number 28-0505). A gate and a stretch of stone wall come with it and are included in the registration.

The Kusaka Family Residence Storage Sheds run west from the south end of the charcoal shed, turn a right angle to the south, and continue south along the street, forming the western edge of the compound.

An east-west range and a north-south range with a gate

The east-west range of the Kusaka Family Residence Storage Sheds is 9.1 metres long and 1.6 metres deep. The north-south range, broken by a gate, is 13 metres long in total and 2.3 metres deep. The roof is pantiled, and the building area is 46 m².

Open to the garden, walled to the street

The Kusaka storage sheds are left open on the garden side, while the street side rises from the stone wall as a solid plastered wall. Inside, they are handy storage; outside, they act as the boundary wall of the property. The Agency for Cultural Affairs registered them for the way they give the site a tidy, enclosed outline.

Visiting

The plastered street wall and stone base of the Kusaka Family Residence Storage Sheds can be seen from the road outside. The garden side and interiors are within the private grounds. This is right next to a family home, so look in passing.
