The treasure store west of the guest bathhouse
The Kusaka Family Residence Treasure Storehouse (日下家住宅寶蔵, Kusaka-ke Jūtaku Takaragura) in Awaga, Santo-cho, Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture, is a two-storey storehouse for the family valuables, built in the late Meiji era; it was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on January 26, 2011 (number 28-0502). It stands as an east-west range west of the guest bathhouse, with the charcoal shed next door.
The Kusaka Family Residence Treasure Storehouse, the takaragura, carries the character for treasure in its name. Of the several storehouses on the property, it is the only one from the Meiji era.
Clay walls on a cut-stone base
The Kusaka Family Residence Treasure Storehouse is a 2-storey earthen storehouse under a gabled pantile roof raised on posts above the clay body, 7.9 metres by 5.9 metres, with a building area of 47 m².
It sits on a base of cut stone, with clay walls left at the intermediate coat. Inside, each floor is a single room, carefully lined with boards.
Three windows in torii-shaped frames
The north wall of the Kusaka treasure storehouse has three windows set in frames shaped like a shrine torii, which give the plain storehouse some variety. The same torii frame appears on the doorway of the Taisho storehouse, a detail worth comparing between the two.
