About the Tada Family Residence Long Storehouse
The Tada Family Residence Long Storehouse (多田家住宅長蔵, Tada-ke Jūtaku Nagakura) is a long clay-walled storehouse of the late Edo period (1830 to 1868) in Moriyama, Chikuzen-machi, Fukuoka Prefecture. It was repaired in 1891 and registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on March 29, 2013. Built in the dozo manner, it is single-story with a tiled roof and covers 159 square meters.
It is the oldest of the 18 registered structures on the estate, and stands along the west part of the north side of the main house, its ridge running east to west.
A Storehouse 23.2 Meters Long
The Tada Long Storehouse measures 23.2 meters by 6.9 meters, about 3.4 times as long as it is deep. The gabled kirizuma roof is laid with pantiles, and there are 2 doors on the south side.
The walls are finished in lime plaster with a namako tile base, and small windows are set high in the south wall. A long white wall dotted with small openings above a straight band of tiled base is what gives the north side of the estate its character.
Late Edo, Repaired in 1891
The Agency for Cultural Affairs database dates the building to the late Edo period and a repair to 1891, without saying what the work involved. That year came right after the main house of 1890 was finished, and the front gate is dated to about 1891 as well, so it looks like a moment when the family, having built a new house, turned to its old storehouse and its gate.
The Tada Family Residence Long Storehouse was already on the site before the main house took its present form.

The Long Storehouse qualified for its contribution to the historic landscape. The Agency describes it as the oldest building on the site, one that shows how the estate was laid out in earlier times.
