About the Tada Family Residence North Storehouse
The Tada Family Residence North Storehouse (多田家住宅北ノ蔵, Tada-ke Jūtaku Kita-no-kura) is a clay-walled storehouse of about 1933 in Moriyama, Chikuzen-machi, Fukuoka Prefecture, registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on March 29, 2013. It is single-story, built in the dozo manner under a tiled roof, and covers 22 square meters.
It is a small store standing behind the retirement house, its ridge running north to south.
Tiles Only at the Corners
The Tada North Storehouse sits on a base of stones laid in horizontal courses. The walls are finished in lime plaster, and tiles are fixed to the lower wall only at the corners. Where the front and long storehouses have a full namako base, this one protects just the edges that take the most knocks.
The tiled strips rising at each corner of a white box give the building a look quite unlike the other storehouses on the estate.
A West Door and a High East Window
The Tada Family Residence North Storehouse measures 5.6 by 4.0 meters, under a gabled kirizuma roof of pantiles. The door is on the west side; on the east a window set high in the wall has a copper shutter.
The archery hall stands immediately to the east, and the Agency for Cultural Affairs notes that the two together make a fine piece of the estate's scenery.
Why It Was Registered
The North Storehouse qualified for its contribution to the historic landscape. It belongs to the building campaign of about 1933 on the northeast side of the estate, together with the retirement house, utensil storehouse, archery hall and target house.
Seeing the North Storehouse
The Tada Family Residence North Storehouse stands behind the retirement house and cannot be seen from the road to the south. No public openings had been announced as of September 2026, and there is no guidance on photography. Directions are on the Tada Family Residence (Chikuzen) page.
