About the Tada Family Residence Utensil Storehouse
The Tada Family Residence Utensil Storehouse (多田家住宅器蔵, Tada-ke Jūtaku Utsuwagura) is a 2-story clay-walled storehouse of about 1933 in Moriyama, Chikuzen-machi, Fukuoka Prefecture, registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on March 29, 2013. Built in the dozo manner under a tiled roof, it covers 37 square meters and comes with a connecting corridor.
It is joined to the east side of the retirement house by a corridor that arches like a small bridge, and its ridge runs east to west.
A Store for the Family's Serving Ware
The Agency for Cultural Affairs says the Tada Utensil Storehouse held the household's jūki, its utensils and serving ware. Old families commonly kept large sets of trays, lacquered bowls and dishes for feeding guests at memorial services and celebrations, stored away between occasions.
Here that store is linked directly to the retirement house with its Buddhist altar room, so the dishes could be carried between storehouse and reception rooms without stepping out into the rain.
An Arched Corridor and Four South Windows
The corridor from the retirement house rises in the middle like a taikobashi bridge. The corridor between the main house and the detached house has an arched bridge too, so the same idea appears twice on the estate.
The Tada Family Residence Utensil Storehouse measures 7.6 by 4.8 meters, under a gabled kirizuma roof of pantiles, with lime-plastered walls over a namako tile base. The south wall has 4 windows, 2 on each floor.
Why It Was Registered
The Utensil Storehouse qualified for its contribution to the historic landscape. The Agency says it sets off the main garden, and the white south wall with its rows of windows is a face meant to be seen from there.
Seeing the Utensil Storehouse
The Tada Family Residence Utensil Storehouse stands on the east side of the grounds beside the retirement house; whether it can be seen from the road to the south has not been confirmed. No public openings had been announced as of September 2026, so the arched corridor is currently out of view. There is no guidance on photography.
