About the Tada Family Residence Warehouse
The Tada Family Residence Warehouse (多田家住宅倉庫, Tada-ke Jūtaku Sōko) is a 2-story timber building of about 1933 in Moriyama, Chikuzen-machi, Fukuoka Prefecture, registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on March 29, 2013. It has a tiled roof and a building area of 26 square meters.
It stands at the back of the estate to the northwest, west of the barn and south of the lumber storehouse, with its ridge running north to south.
Where the Servants Lived
According to the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the Tada Warehouse served as housing for the household's servants until about 1945, which is why the upstairs windows are fitted with lattices. The name says storage, but the latticed windows show from outside that people once slept here.
The family lived in the main house and retirement house; the people who worked for them lived at the back, in this building. Of the 18 structures on the Tada estate, it is the only one tied directly to the lives of people outside the family.
Size and Form
The Tada Family Residence Warehouse measures 5.3 by 5.0 meters, close to square in plan, under a gabled kirizuma roof of pantiles with a lean-to on the east side. Small as it is, at 2 stories it is one of the taller buildings around the back garden.
Why It Was Registered
The Warehouse qualified for its contribution to the historic landscape. The Agency says it shows how an old family lived, and its value lies in showing the estate as it really worked, including the people who kept it running.
Seeing the Warehouse
The Tada Family Residence Warehouse is at the back of the grounds and cannot be seen from the road to the south. No public openings had been announced as of September 2026, and there is no guidance on photography. Directions are on the Tada Family Residence (Chikuzen) page.
